PROMHYDRO WATER REPELLENT BLOCKS - SPECIFICATION

JOINT FILLER FOR GYPSUM BLOCKS: E L A S T O WP12

SPECIFICATIONS FOR SOLID WALLS

GENERAL

The walls consist of solid Promonta gypsum blocks having two smooth surfaces. Each block is moulded with two, tongued sides (one short and one long) and two grooved sides, to enable them to be fitted perfectly together during assembly.

CHARACTERISTICS

Dimensions : 500x666 mm (3 blocks per m²) or 500x450 mm (lighter weight and small sized blocks)
Thickness : 70, 80 and 100 mm
Density - normal blocks: ± 950 kg/m³
Density - heavy blocks: ± 1,250 kg/m³
Strength: minimum 5 N/mm² for all types of blocks
Fire resistance Rf: + 3 hours for 70 mm and + 4 hours for 100 mm
Acoustic insulation: 100 mm Normal (± 950 to 1.000 kg) BS and Iso R717 = 38 dB
AIRO-lab Hemel Hempstead

TRANSPORT AND STORAGE

The gypsum blocks must be protected from water and moisture during transport and storage.
The blocks will be supplied in plastic shrinkwrapped.
Care should be taken when handling the blocks to avoid scratching faces and chipping edges.

TYPES

Normal blocks - density ± 950 kg/m³ - colour white
Heavy blocks - density ± 1,250 kg/m³ - colour rose-like
Water repellent (Hydro) blocks - density ± 950 kg/m³ - colour bluish
The heavy blocks have extra noise-dampening properties.
The hydro blocks are used for wet areas such as showers, cellars, etc.
They have a very low absorption capacity.
When immersed completely in water during 2 hours the weight of the blocks will increase by maximum 5%.
Special acoustic walls type Promagglo: composite wall with a special acoustic insulation and peripheral acoustic strips.
A class I according to NBN S01-400 standard could be obtained.

INSTALLATION AND FINISHING

Promonta gypsum blocks should be used as far as possible after the building is glazed and watertight.
The gypsum blocks are connected together in a stretcher bond into a continuous whole, using a special gypsum adhesive based on fine gypsum and additives (Promontine).
The walls are normally built off the level floor screed. Rough floors should be levelled off beforehand.
The blocks are installed so that the 500 mm sides are vertical, with the tongue facing upwards.
As the blocks are fitted together, the gypsum adhesive is forced out of the joints. It can be wiped away and the joints smoothed off later on.
The top joint against the ceiling is filled with a mix of plaster and gypsum adhesive, or a flexible joint filler such as Elasto WP12 or PU foam.
After openings for electricity and sanitary lines have been drilled, they are sealed with plaster to a depth of ± 2 mm below the surface.
This work should be carried out by the relevant specialists. The walls are finished with gypsum adhesive or by a finishing adhesive, Superpromontine.
In this way, a smooth wall is obtained, ready for papering or painting. If the walls are tiled or treated with abrasive mortar or a similar material, the gypsum wall should not be sanded.
If the gypsum blocks are decorated (e.g. painted or papered), this should be done according to the manufacturer's guidelines.
Generally speaking, a primer should be used.
Between concrete or brickwork, the walls should protrude ± 15 mm to enable plastering to take place in the same plane.
Prominent corners should be finished with a fitted corner steel bead.

Measuring:

any openings of less than 1m² should not be deducted. Slanting walls should be measured as though they were regular.

TOP JOINT FILLER FOR GYPSUM BLOCKS: E L A S T O WP12

  • ELASTO WP12 is a special top filler for gypsum blocks.
  • It is supplied in 30-litre plastic tubs in paste form.
  • ELASTO WP12 is white in colour, it should be pressed into the top joint using a plasterer's trowel and left flush.
  • After a few days, there will be signs of slight settlement, and a surface skin will already have formed.
  • Because of the long drying time, it is advisable to point up the walls immediately after installation.
  • When the joints are finished and dry they can be sanded.
  • The ELASTO WP12 joint is connected to the ceiling in an elastic and flexible manner. This gives plenty of allowance for movements such as deflection resulting in fewer cracks.
  • ELASTO WP12 is highly fire-resistant, and improves a wall's acoustic properties
(See test reports by the Ghent University and the WTCB).
